Being the most popular time of year to throw a wedding, the May through August
months hold many unique options when planning a wonderful wedding.
Color Choices
Instead of using the springtime pastels as your main color, use these as accents
and focus on more bold and rich colors such as: golds, yellows, blues, purples,
reds and greens. Use the appropriate colors in combination with your chosen theme. For example if you have chosen a summertime romantic theme use a rich red
with golden accents, for a nautical theme use bold blues with crafty patterns.
Wedding Dress
Lucky for the summer brides, most wedding dresses seem to be designed for the
summer season. Not only should you look at the design of the dress but the fabric it is made of as well. Light weight, thin fabrics are perfect. Look at fabrics like: organza, chiffon, georgette, crepe, tulle and lace
for lighter options. Add a splash of color with a sash or bow to brighten up your dress.
Many brides are even throwing tradition out the door and opting for
dresses with more color.
Favor Ideas
Use the season to guide your favor choices. If you’re having a beach wedding give guests seashells, or even a
miniature sand castle. For that great outdoors wedding, use nature as inspiration and give guests potted plants
or seeds to plant in their own garden. For those musical people out there, tap into your talents and create a CD
full of your favorite romantic summer songs. Guests can play your choice of music all year long! Handheld fans also make a great gift for guests to use on those hot
summer days. If you prefer edible favors, lean towards candies or cookies decorated with your theme in mind; they
may not last long but guests will certainly grab for them!
Ceremony and Reception Ideas
There are several ideas to make your summer wedding unique. Because the weather is more on your side in the summer than perhaps any
other season, look into an outdoor wedding ceremony and/or reception. Tents make a beautiful statement and can provide shelter for those
uncompromising thunderstorms. Stringing lights or flowers can create that romantic touch that guests will talk
about for days to come. For centerpieces use fruit in clear vases, floating candles in water, or even
goldfish! Fish add visual intrigue for your guests to watch during their meal. Another centerpiece idea is adding a “wishing well” type pot in the
middle of your table for guests to write their wishes to you in the future.
Keep in Mind
The time of year poses many threats to your hair. If your hair suffers under the strain of heat and humidity go with an
updo (with plenty of hairspray) that will last throughout the entire event. Don’t forget to plan accordingly with your makeup also; use more power
based formulas, an eyeliner sealing product, and of course the waterproof mascara.
If you plan for an outdoor event, as always have a Plan B! You never want
to be stuck with an outdoor location in a thunderstorm, having an indoor space
reserved will not only be a lifesaver, but reduce the stressful “What ifs” that
seem to flow right before the big day.
