The autumn season provides a great backdrop for those brides who wish to take
advantage of the changing colors of nature and cool climate. Using nature as inspiration, brides can create a dramatic fall wedding
with very basic ideas.
Color Choices
Using warm, jewel-tone colors will definitely set the scene
for your fall wedding. Oranges, yellows, reds, and even browns can compliment your wedding day by showing up in
bridesmaids’ dresses, décor and favors.
Wedding Dress
For those brides who opt for an outdoors wedding, you might want to take the
weather in consideration before purchasing your dress. Look at the average temperature and weather for your particular location
to gauge what you should expect on your wedding day. If the average temperature dips during your wedding day consider a long
sleeved dress or draping a wrap or shawl over your shoulders. Using gold accents will add a splash of elegance to your white or ivory
dress also. Don’t forget your bridesmaids when making these choices either!
Favor Ideas
There are several options for giving your guests a piece of your fall wedding. Mini pumpkins with the couple’s names and wedding date painted on the
face, fruit, maple syrup in decorative containers, saplings, coffee, hot cocoa,
apple cider, homemade preserves, caramelized apples, a mini book of autumn
recipes, slice of pumpkin pie, and personalized candies are just a few ways to
surprise your guests with a great gift.
Ceremony & Reception Ideas
Many fall brides opt for pumpkins (or jack-o-lanterns), gourds, leaves, bales of
hay, corn stalks, or fruit as decorations for weddings. Leaves can be used to line the aisles, garland could drape the pews, and
an archway with autumn décor can act as the perfect centerpiece. Using stringed lights in decorative trees or tulle is a great way to add
the romantic touch. For reception centerpieces use floating candles in the shape of leaves, pumpkins & gourds,
fruit in vases with complimentary flowers, paper lanterns with shapes cut out,
or a mixture of any other autumn themed ideas. The wedding cake can even get a touch of autumn with an apple, pumpkin,
or pecan flavor added into the mix.
Keep in Mind
As always have a plan B for those outdoor weddings. If you want to give your guests something to do during the reception
consider a pumpkin carving station or a station to make caramelized apples. For those of you who choose to have a costume themed wedding, consider a
photo station with Polaroid’s for your guests to take home in a decorative
frame.
